In simple terms, we have what is called a hydrolipidic film on the surface of our skin. This film protects our body from dehydration by retaining water within our bodies. This barrier also protects against external attacks, such as microbes and fungi.
However, conventional soaps generally contain sulphates, which compromise the hydrolipidic film. Without its natural barrier, the skin dries out, pulls tight, and itches, owing to a lack of hydration. In addition, it becomes more sensitive to external conditions, such as the cold and UV rays.
The benefit of a shower oil is that it looks after this film and provides intense hydration for the skin. It protects the skin from the limescale in the water we shower with, and provides liposoluble vitamins.
