What causes the brown marks that can appear on the skin?

Café-au-lait spots can occur as from birth. These brown marks can vary in shape and size, and can be found almost anywhere on the body. Freckles, on the other hand, tend to occur on the face. These occur on light skins and are influenced directly by the parents' genes. 

To date, there is no effective treatment for their removal. The only possible course of action for freckles is to avoid exposure to the sun, so as to reduce the contrast of these marks. Anti-blemish cosmetics are available to enable you to reduce the visibility of these marks on your face and body.

What other types of marks are there?

There are also birthmarks known as port-wine stains, as they resemble red wine spilt on the skin. These are caused by the dilation of the blood vessels under the skin, creating a red or blue appearance on the skin's surface. Similarly, there is no solution, aside from treatments (notably laser) which serve to reduce the intensity of the colour of the treated area.
